Hiromi Kim’s work was recently awarded the second prize at the New York Art Exhibition (organized by the Art Incubation Association). It will be exhibited at a gallery in Soho in November of this year.

The work to be exhibited is “Hemp Hearts.”

“Hemp Hearts” is a three-dimensional art piece made of hemp (a fabric made from the fibers of the cannabis plant).

It expresses the strange history of the hemp plant and the psychological conflicts and feelings that humanity has experienced throughout its history.

Eight 30cm square tile-shaped acoustic panels are covered with hemp fabric processed using a sewing technique called smocking, and the tiles, each with a different pattern, are arranged in a heart shape and pasted on the wall.

It also functions as an acoustic material (sound absorption and soundproofing), so it also raises the issue of noise problems in modern society.

Humanity has been at the mercy of hemp, which has a strange history, and after the war, most hemp farmers in Japan declined. I would like to once again shine a light on this excellent plant and spread understanding and awareness.

Ahead of the exhibition starting in November, we will soon start a crowdfunding campaign called “Campfire”. We will have a variety of items such as MOLFO’s Deneb and original jute bags.

Your support will be very encouraging.
